# SSL Certificates

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates a website's identity and enables an encrypted connection. SSL is a standard security technology that ensures all data transmitted between a web server and a browser remains private and intact.

## Why is an SSL certificate important?

**Encryption**: SSL certificates encrypt data transferred between the server and the client, protecting sensitive information from being intercepted by third parties.

**Authentication**: The certificate confirms that the website is truly who it claims to be, which increases credibility.

**SEO Benefits**: Search engines, such as Google, prefer websites secured with SSL and may give them higher rankings.

**User Trust**: Websites with an SSL certificate display a padlock icon in the address bar, which increases visitor trust.

## How to use certificates?

If we manage your website and domain, you don't have to worry about a thing. We ensure security by installing a Cloudflare certificate, which allows for Server → Cloudflare authentication and automatically generates a new certificate every 3 months.

If you manage the website yourself, there are 2 primary options:

* **Let's Encrypt Certificate** - An automatically generated certificate that, when the domain is correctly pointed, automatically renews every 2-3 months.
* **Custom SSL Certificate** - Requires manual installation. If you are using Cloudflare, you will need to upload your own Client Certificate.
